| ELECTION
& THE NONPROFIT COMMUNITY
The November
5 election is drawing near, and it is vital that the nonprofit community
elects leadership that will support our agenda. We all know the economic
situation in Michigan is looking grim, so it is imperative that we have
elected officials who understand the important role nonprofits play within
our state.
Below you
will find biographies for the candidates running for statewide office,
as well as summaries of the major ballot proposals. Please take the time
to read through them, and visit the candidates' campaign webpages to find
the information you need to make your choices on election day.
The Michigan
Secretary of State Voter Information Center is an online source for one-stop
election information. On the site, you can access information on your
voter registration status, find the location and get directions to your
polling place, and preview your ballot. The Voter Information Center can
be found here: https://www.sospublius.org/publiussearch/
After the
election is over, take a moment to get in contact with the newly elected
officials. A congratulations postcard or phone call can go a long way
towards establishing a good relationship between your organization and
the new officeholders.
Remember
to visit the Michigan Nonprofit's webpage for more information on advocacy
and lobbying. For those of you who have not yet signed on to the MNA's
Nonprofit Agenda, it is not too late. It is very important that the nonprofit
sector presents a unified front to policy makers. The deadline for signing
on is November 11, and the form is available on the MNA webpage. The address
is: http://www.mnaonline.org
