Don't Miss Out! Register Now for Public Policy 101: The Basics of Nonprofit Advocacy

Have you been thinking that your organization needs to be more involved in public policy, but you just don't know where to start? Would you like a basic introduction to advocacy, including a crash course in "policy lingo" and an overview of how the legislative process works? If your answer is yes, then this session is for you!

Public Policy 101: The Basics of Nonprofit Advocacy is a basic workshop for nonprofit staff, volunteers and board members who are thinking about increasing their capacity to do policy work at the State Capitol. Definitions of public policy, advocacy, lobbying, and the arenas of influence will be discussed, as well as a basic description of the legislative process and how bills become law. Lobbying laws, planning for advocacy, and basic advocacy skills will also be introduced in this session.

Public Policy 101: The Basics of Nonprofit Advocacy will take place on Monday, January 14, 2008, from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Kent/MSU Extension Office, 775 Ball Ave NE, Grand Rapids. The cost to attend is $25, pre-registration is required, and the registration deadline is 5:00 p.m. on Monday, January 7.
