Urge Your Senators to Support Nonprofits through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Bill

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Bill, otherwise known as the economic stimulus package, has been adopted by the U.S. House of Representatives and is currently being debated by the U.S. Senate. The House took a strong first step toward alleviating some of the growing hardship faced by millions of Americans. Yet without further action, many vulnerable Americans will remain at great risk.

There are a number of provisions that Congress has the opportunity to incorporate into the American Recovery and Reinvestment Bill that would strengthen the nonprofit sector at this time when nonprofits are facing rising demand for their services coupled with the crunch of the economic crisis on their budgets. These provisions include methods of encouraging charitable giving, making credit available to bridge funding gaps resulting from state reimbursement delays for nonprofit-government contracts for services, and supporting AmeriCorps funding for national service members serving the most vulnerable of our population.

The Senate is currently debating the American Recovery and Reinvestment Bill and its provisions, so we urge you to act quickly! Send a letter to Senators Levin and Stabenow, asking them to support these provisions. Sending a letter is easy - just click here.
