Power up Nonprofits: Communicating the Value of the Nonprofit Community
9:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m.

Nonprofits are once again on the defensive with the legislature, the media and the public. Few people truly know what a nonprofit is and fewer understand the economic and social power of nonprofits. Unfortunately, this lack of knowledge can result in negative media coverage and undesirable legislative action. National and local experts will join us for this session to discuss how the power of our collective messages can drive the economic and social change we want to accomplish.

Moderator: Tim Delaney, National Council of Nonprofit Associations. Presenter: Pat Read, Independent Sector. Panelists: Jacqueline Jones, United Way for Southeastern Michigan and Anne Mervenne, Mervenne & Company.

Break
11:00 a.m.–11:15 a.m.

Presenters: Neeta Delaney, ArtServe Michigan and Jane Robinson, Armory Arts Project.

Nonprofits Vote!
For nonprofits and the country, 2008 is yet another historic election. But have nonprofits been heard? With more at stake than ever for the sector, this workshop will cover easy and effective ways to incorporate voter registration, education and mobilization into your ongoing efforts.

Election 2008 - What Will Happen to Michigan Nonprofits and the Issues we Support?

Experts on these issues and the political environment will share their thoughts for the future.

Moderator: Craig Ruff, Public Sector Consultants.
