The Hook-Up: An Unexpected MNA Member Benefit

Several months ago, the Dearborn Youth Symphony (DYS) contacted the Michigan Nonprofit Association for a recommendation on a school, company, or person that could create a recruitment video about their group. Like so many others, this organization operates on a tight budget but faces the same challenges as for-profit entities. They needed to produce a tool that would grow their membership and increase exposure in the community. Through a staff member at MNA, DYS was eventually put in touch with Dana McComb, who created the video below. DYS is thrilled with the outcome of the video and would like to share the experience, as well as the finished product, with MNA members.

The goal for this project was a three-minute video of musician interviews recorded on a hand-held device. DYS knew they wanted “something fast-paced featuring [the] musicians,” but had a difficult time picturing the finished product. What Dana and her partner Nate Klenk produced was a dynamic professional tool. From their script meetings and location interviews to green screen backdrops and animated effects, DYS is now the beneficiary of a video that rivals many corporate communication departments. Additionally, these two went to great lengths to borrow equipment to assure a quality product.

From Toni Straley, Executive Director of the Dearborn Youth Symphony: "Thank you so much to MNA for providing us with the resource to launch this project. It was a success because you connected us with Dana."
