Public Policy & Advocacy

Partnerships between the government and nonprofit sectors allow for leveraging of resources, relationships, and strengths to serve communities even better.

As the largest organization representing Michigan’s nonprofits, our mission is to advocate and strengthen the operating environment for nonprofits with advocacy, tools and resources, education and advancing anti-racism policies.

Policy Priorities

Michigan Nonprofit Association's public policy efforts aim to strengthen the operating environment for nonprofits by:

  • Advocating on behalf of the Michigan nonprofit sector on public policy issues that impact all nonprofits at federal and state level
  • Providing the tools and resources to be effective advocates and lobbyists
  • Educating policymakers and the media on issues affecting Michigan nonprofits
  • Advancing Anti-Racism and DEIJ (diversity, equity, inclusion, justice) policies to create a culture of empowerment for communities that have been historically marginalized and undervalued
  • Working toward sustainability and parity with small business
  • Increase engagement of all stakeholders, specifically members, in public policy and advocacy efforts led or supported by MNA
