MNA and Nonstop Administration and Insurance Services announce partnership to bring improved access to care at reduced costs to Michigan nonprofits with 50+ employees on benefits

FEBRUARY 2018 – LANSING, MICHIGAN – The Michigan Nonprofit Association (MNA) and Nonstop Administration and Insurance Services, Inc. (Nonstop) formally announced their partnership this month to address the challenges Michigan nonprofits have with securing high quality, affordable healthcare coverage for their employees. Through Nonstop’s proprietary partially self-funded health insurance program, Nonstop Wellness, MNA members now have access to a long-term healthcare solution that decreases annual premium spend while reducing or eliminating out-of-pocket expenses for employees. With Nonstop Wellness, Michigan nonprofits can now effectively challenge the skyrocketing premiums and cost-shifting trends commonly associated with traditional health insurance plans.

“A strong health care plan is critical to attract and retain top talent in the nonprofit sector,” said Donna Murray-Brown, president and CEO of the Michigan Nonprofit Association. “That’s why MNA has partnered with Nonstop Wellness to provide this valuable member benefit to save on health care costs. We encourage all our members with more than 50 employees on benefits to reach out to Nonstop and see if their organization qualifies for this innovative program.”

While large businesses often opt to self-insure their employee health insurance, nonprofits have typically opted out of self-funding due to the high financial risks and administrative burden. However, Nonstop has created a new model of insurance that makes self-funding a more predictable and budget-friendly experience, so nonprofits can employ the same savings as bigger organizations and secure better health coverage for their employees. Designed specifically for nonprofits with more than 50 members on benefits, Nonstop’s partial self-funded approach features reduced or eliminated employee out-of-pocket expenses, with an emphasis on early access to primary and preventive care. Ultimately, this provides nonprofits with a key recruitment and retention tool, while lowering the overall organizational spend.

"It was important to us that saving money on healthcare didn't come at the expense of our employees, such as through cost-shifting; as such, the biggest thing with Nonstop Wellness is that our staff saves in both premium and out-of-pocket costs, which is fabulous for them and for CHASS,” said Angela Salgado, Human Resources Director for Community Health and Social Services Center, based in Detroit, MI. “The fact that we can now advertise a great benefits package, which offers our employees eliminated copays and deductibles, makes a big difference in our recruitment and retention efforts.”

Partial self-funding employee healthcare is a growing trend for small-to-midsize organizations, and Nonstop is at the forefront of this movement towards more affordable, high-quality healthcare for nonprofits. Currently Nonstop serves organizations in 12 states and the District of Columbia, and has relationships with nonprofit state associations across all regions of the United States. Nonstop is also a partner with the National Council of Nonprofits and is officially endorsed by the National Association of Community Health Centers as part of its Value in Benefits (ViB) Program. With the Nonstop Wellness program, Nonstop has saved its nonprofit clients and employees millions of dollars in annual premium costs and out-of-pocket expenses.
