'Communities of interest' will play a major role in Michigan redistricting

“MNA is working with nonprofits in Detroit and Grand Rapids to help them make sure their clients know how to get involved in redistricting and hope to expand into other regions. Their goal is to get as many communities to participate as possible.

"Redistricting is a unique opportunity that happens every 10 years," said Mariana Martinez, MNA director of civic engagement initiatives. "If voices of the community are not represented... the ramifications of that could be very negative in the long term."
