Gerrymandering split communities in the past. New redistricting process aims to keep them together

One of the hardest jobs for the randomly selected group of Michigan voters charged with redrawing the state’s congressional and legislative districts this year is that they will be required to draw districts that keep communities that share political interests together.

Michigan’s redistricting commission is mulling over how it will apply this new requirement at the same time communities across the state are working tirelessly to make their case before the commission.
