#GivingTuesday: A day for Michiganders to Support Local Nonprofits during this Giving Season

LANSING- With rising inflation and an ongoing pandemic, nonprofits across Michigan need support during this wintertime season of giving. “Giving Tuesday is a day that encourages people to do good, said Kelley Kuhn, president and CEO of Michigan Nonprofit Association. “On this Giving Tuesday, I encourage you to support Michigan’s nonprofit sector whether it be with your time or with monetary donations. As we’re ending yet another year in a global pandemic, the demand for help from nonprofits hasn’t wavered. In fact, the demand and need is even greater than before. By supporting Michigan nonprofits your donations will have a direct impact in your community.”

Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving that was created in 2012 and takes place annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. The global campaign is an opportunity for people to come together to thank, help, give, show kindness, and share what they have with those in need. “GivingTuesday inspires people all around the world to embrace their power to make an impact on the causes and issues they care about, not just on one day but throughout the year,” said Asha Curran, GivingTuesday’s CEO, and co-founder of the movement.

In the grip of the coronavirus pandemic, it was Michigan’s nonprofits, health agencies and hospitals which provided a lifeline to many vulnerable Michiganders. “Michigan nonprofits have been responding since the beginning of the pandemic,” said Kuhn. “They are providing essential services to our communities while at the same time trying to stay afloat. Without nonprofits, more families would face more dire and devastating impacts.”

Michiganders can join their neighbors from across Michigan in a global movement for good. “There are plenty of opportunities to donate to nonprofits statewide this Giving Tuesday,” said Kuhn. “We encourage people to scroll through our nonprofit directory to find an organization to support. Even a small contribution will make a big difference.”
