Showing Up for One Another, Even in Hard Moments

As we watch these heartbreaking events unfolding in Minnesota, including the fatal shootings this month involving federal immigration enforcement, we know many here in Michigan are feeling grief, fear, and a deep sense of unease. These moments remind us just how fragile trust and safety can feel for so many people right now. MNA stands in solidarity with our sister organization, the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, and the broader Minnesota nonprofit community as they grapple with what is happening in their neighborhoods. This isn’t just some random and distant news headline--it’s the lived experience of communities in Minnesota at this very moment and it underscores the real fear many community members feel about safety and belonging.

In tumultuous times like this, trust and peace are built intentionally through how we show up for each other, how leaders speak, and how we communicate. And the nonprofit sector, rooted in service and community, plays a crucial role in holding space for healing, connection and collective support. What has been especially striking in Minnesota is not only the crisis itself, but how people are choosing to respond - with care and a focus on supporting one another and preserving community bonds even in a difficult and uncertain time. That response has prompted many Michiganders to look for ways to help, share resources, and support impacted communities from a distance.

Our friends in Minnesota have put together a resource page with actions we can all take to support the community, including guidance specifically for nonprofits navigating this moment.
