LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan Nonprofit Association (MNA) is pleased to announce Danielle McCann as its new Chief Policy Officer. In this role, McCann will lead MNA’s policy and advocacy efforts, working to ensure nonprofits across Michigan have a strong voice in the decisions that impact their communities.
McCann steps into the role as longtime leader Joan Gustafson retires after more than a decade of service to MNA and the nonprofit sector.
McCann most recently served as Legislative Affairs Director for the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, where she worked alongside legislators and stakeholders to advance economic development policy for the state. She previously served as Interim Director of Appointments and Deputy Director of External Affairs for Governor Gretchen Whitmer, where she led efforts to appoint Michiganders to boards and commissions, state universities, and judicial vacancies. She has also held roles in the Michigan Senate and House of Representatives.
“Danielle brings the leadership and perspective we need in this moment, and I’m excited to see how she will build on that foundation and move our policy work forward,” said MNA President & CEO Kelley Kuhn.
McCann is a graduate of Michigan State University’s James Madison College and holds a Master of Public Administration from Central Michigan University.
“Every day, nonprofits are showing up for their communities. Our role is to make sure they have a voice in the policies that impact that work, and Danielle will help us continue to lead that effort,” said Kuhn.
