MNA Member Spotlight: FINM Solutions Revolutionizing Financial Literacy and Empowering Minority Women

With over 2,500 weekly visitors to the MNA Job Center listings page, our members have witnessed an uptick in successful new hires through our Job Center. FINM Solutions is an example of such. The nonprofit is dedicated to enhancing financial literacy and capacity building for Career Pathways to Prosperity. Recently joining MNA in 2023, FINM Solutions is making significant strides in supporting minority women in finance, human resources, and various management consulting professions. We had the privilege of speaking with Jacquelyn West of FINM Solutions, who shared valuable insights about the organization and its groundbreaking program aiming to transform the job market for minority women.

FINM Solutions is currently in its second year of planning through AmeriCorps, with a primary mission to educate Black women about financial literacy and empower them to grow their personal wealth. The program focuses on teaching trades beyond traditional apprenticeships, such as virtual assistance, financial bookkeeping, accounting, and personal finance management. Research highlights that many women living below the poverty line face additional challenges, such as a lack of childcare, transportation, and limited access to technology like computers and the Internet. To address these disparities, the organization is launching a pilot program catering to women with income levels below the poverty line residing in the 48205, 48213, and 48234 area codes. A comprehensive assessment will be conducted to identify the needs and barriers these women encounter while offering wrap-around services to create pathways for them to escape poverty, enhance workplace accommodations, and foster awareness for higher education.

An integral part of this initiative involves partnering with curriculum writers, professors, professionals, and leaders in the professional services field. These collaborators will serve as instructors and mentors, guiding and supporting the participants throughout their journey. Additionally, organizational partnerships with the MNA Job Center and other relevant entities will help minority women acquire essential life skills and expose them to a wide range of professional opportunities.

The impact of this partnership has already been felt as MNA connected FINM Solutions with a successful candidate within just 45 days of the first job post. West praised the helpful MNA staff, especially Jen, for providing a positive experience. “Jen went through the job board with me, and it was affordable and had a great value with reliable candidates,” said West.

For growing nonprofit organizations, connecting with a diverse network of job seekers and availing exclusive member-only discounts are valuable opportunities offered by MNA.
