Position Overview:
The Marketing Operations Manager provides supervision and day-to-day support to a team of marketing specialists, each dedicated to a business unit. This position is a key member of the Strategic Communications & Partnerships team to ensure consistent branding, messaging, and operational efficiency using modern marketing theory and practices. The leader in this position works independently to provide structure and direction, prioritizing work for the team while contributing to communications and creative asset creation across all units. This position tracks marketing collateral and campaign data to report and make recommendations on marketing strategy improvements. This position reports to the Sr. Director of Strategic Communications & Partnerships. The position is located at the Lansing, MI office with regular hybrid work during a typical work week.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Supervise and support the Marketing Specialist team, including professional development and performance reviews.
- Coordinate deployment of the Marketing Specialist team for planned and ad hoc projects, aligning resources to organizational priorities.
- Oversee creation of marketing materials, campaigns, and digital content that reflect Michigan Virtual’s brand.
- Support copywriting, editing, and graphic design as needed.
- Manage HubSpot CRM and related integrations; track and report social media campaign performance.
- Develop and monitor the annual marketing calendar, in coordination with Business Units and assigned Marketing personnel, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Partner effectively with business units, external educational organization partners, vendors and other stakeholders to build relationships, set expectations, and deliver marketing initiatives on time and within budget.
- Create and execute Scope Documents (process and project work plans) and revises as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
- Regularly communicate the status of marketing projects to business units and management, including timelines, budget status, resources needed, and planned deliverables.
- Provide project management oversight using Wrike or other collaboration tools.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Proficiency with HubSpot CRM, project management tools (e.g., Wrike, ClickUp, Monday), and marketing analytics.
- Familiarity with digital marketing channels, including social media and email marketing.
- Strong project management, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Knowledge of and regular use of artificial intelligence tools to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
- Excellent written and verbal communication with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work professionally and collaboratively across teams and maintain confidentiality.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Canva.
- Knowledge of educational marketing requirements (FERPA, COPPA, ADA/accessibility).
- Growth mindset and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to execute and work on multiple concurrent assignments for multiple stakeholders.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, or Business Administration.
- 3–5 years of supervisory experience with a record of team leadership.
- 5+ years of professional marketing or project management experience, preferably in education or nonprofit sectors.
- Proven success in managing campaigns across multiple service areas.
- Able to combine an overall understanding of marketing techniques and a comprehensive knowledge of promotion-related communications/media concepts, policies, practices, and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional development or certification in marketing, project management, social media management and/or digital marketing tools.
- Experience in K–12 education or nonprofit organizations.
- Familiarity with SEO, AIEO, A/B testing, Google Ads + Analytics, LinkedIn, and WordPress.
- Familiarity with a CRM platform (such as HubSpot), project management tools (such as Wrike), platforms such as SharePoint or other related tools
- Understanding of Michigan’s K–12 education landscape.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
The work environment is typical of an office setting with hybrid flexibility. This role primarily involves working at a computer, participating in virtual and in-person meetings, and communicating with team members and partners. The position may require occasional travel to events or partner locations.
