Talent Development Manager

The Talent Development Manager, supports the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of Detroit Promise's career readiness, workforce engagement, and alumni success initiatives by bridging organizational strategy with workforce capabilities.  This position oversees programming that prepares students and alumni for career success through employer engagement, professional skill development, experiential learning, career exploration, and workforce pathway opportunities. The Manager collaborates with assigned staff, coordinates employer and workforce partnerships, monitors program performance and postsecondary workforce outcomes across organizational pillars to ensure that talent development initiatives advance Detroit Promise's long-term prosperity goals. 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree required 
  • 3–5 years of experience in workforce development, career services, post-secondary education, nonprofit management, or related fields. 
  • Experience developing and facilitating programs, partnerships, and/or professional development activities. 
  • Strong relationship-building, communication, and facilitation skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, track engagement data, and maintain organized documentation. 
  • Commitment to educational equity, career mobility, and student-centered support. 

 

Positions Responsibilities (or Functions) 

Career Readiness & Workforce Engagement 

  • Support and contribute to the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of Detroit Promise's career readiness, workforce engagement, and talent development initiatives.  
  • Implement workforce strategies that advance career readiness, employer engagement, and talent development.  
  • Co-develop and execute annual work plans aligned with Detroit Promise Prosperity goals.  
  • Manage workshops, professional skill development, career exploration, and career-connected learning opportunities.  
  • Support and maintain employer and workforce partnerships that expand internships, experiential learning, employment, and career pathway opportunities.  
  • Monitor participation, engagement, and workforce outcomes to evaluate program effectiveness and inform continuous improvement.  
  • Ensure career readiness initiatives align with student needs, labor market trends, and organizational priorities. 

 

Alumni Engagement & Workforce Follow-Up 

  • Co-develop and implement strategies that strengthen alumni engagement and long-term workforce connections.  
  • Assist with communication and relationship-building efforts with Detroit Promise alumni.  
  • Coordinate alumni participation in mentoring, networking, and career development opportunities.  
  • Track alumni workforce outcomes and engagement to inform organizational planning and continuous improvement.  
  • Utilize alumni feedback and data to enhance talent development programming and employer partnerships. 

Data, Assessment & Continuous Improvement 

  • Co-establish and monitor key performance indicators for talent development initiatives.  
  • Analyze program participation, engagement, and workforce outcome data to identify trends and measure impact.  
  • Ensure accurate CRM documentation and reporting practices across assigned initiatives.  
  • Prepare reports, dashboards, and recommendations for leadership to support decision-making and continuous improvement. 

Team Leadership & Program Management 

  • Provide day-to-day supervision, coaching, and professional development for assigned staff.  
  • Co-develop annual goals, work plans, and performance expectations  
  • Monitor workload, productivity, program quality, and team performance to ensure effective service delivery.  
  • Foster a collaborative, student-centered culture focused on accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.  
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of assigned staff as needed. 

 

Organizational & Engagement Support 

  • Participate in workshops, events, outreach efforts, presentations, and organization-wide initiatives as needed. 
  • Contribute to process improvement, problem solving, and organizational planning efforts and strategy. 
  • Support a collaborative, student-centered, and equity-driven organizational culture. 

 

Cross Team Collaboration 

  • Collaborate with Student Supports to align career readiness initiatives with student coaching and persistence efforts.  
  • Partner with Outreach & Partnerships to promote workforce opportunities and employer engagement.  
  • Participate with the Prosperity team in cross-functional planning and organizational initiatives.  
  • Support organization-wide events, presentations, and strategic priorities as assigned.  
  • Perform other duties as required.
