RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Communications
- Work with the CEO to identify and meet organizational communication needs, identify key target audiences, and develop a communications strategy that aligns with SHF’s mission.
- Develop and manage a communications calendar.
- Evaluate data on grantee outcomes to tell stories of impact through the Foundation’s grants.
- Foster an internal communications culture, including championing professional communication skills development among staff, ensuring the consistent use of tools such as the brand guide and templates, and developing external and internal communications processes and practices.
- Review and edit materials to ensure accuracy and a consistent tone.
- Identify opportunities to grow SHF’s public profile through earned media and act as a liaison with local media outlets to ensure their presence at Foundation events and coverage of important Foundation announcements.
Digital Presence
- Manage website development and updates.
- Create content tailored to various social media platforms, monitor analytics, analyze trends, explore areas of expansion, optimize content visibility and engagement, and report on key metrics.
- Initiate creative approaches and run promotional campaigns for key activities, such as the annual gala, Breast Health Fund, and AED campaigns.
- Draft, design, and produce foundation documents, including monthly newsletters, brochures, press releases, annual reports, and other materials.
- In collaboration with the Program Officer, conduct outreach to grantees and gift recipients to share stories of impact, draft blog posts, and gather feedback on the Foundation’s grantmaking and gift processes.
Event Support
- Oversee communications and branding needs for all SHF events.
- Participate in planning and coordination of SHF’s annual grantee convening and other learning events.
- Assist with securing event sponsorships and donations, donor and sponsor acknowledgement, and developing and coordinating presentations and event collateral.
- Provide day-of support, including on-site registration and logistics, monitoring IT and AV needs, mic running, volunteer coordination, and setup and teardown.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Exceptional writing and editing skills and the ability to distil complex information to produce clear, compelling narratives.
- An understanding of basic design principles and the ability to use software to create collateral and digital products that align with the brand and mission of SHF.
- Knowledge of the various social media platforms and their intended audiences and a strong sense of how to use each strategically.
- Proficiency in computer programs and software such as Microsoft Office, Zoom, database management, email, internet use, research, etc.
- A strong understanding of the nonprofit sector, philanthropy, and/or rural health communications.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously under deadlines or time constraints.
- Forward-thinking and customer service-oriented mindset with the ability to solve problems and think analytically proactively.
- Ability to work with a wide variety of people, including but not limited to donors, board members, volunteers, business owners, non-profit leaders, and government officials.
- Availability to occasionally travel and work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to effectively work remotely, independently, and under limited supervision.
The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $68,000. SHF offers professional development opportunities and a benefits package that includes health insurance, paid time off, and a SIMPLE IRA plan.
