Community Impact Manager

Education:
A bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, marketing, public relations, community development, business, or a related field is preferred. A combination of relevant education, professional experience, and demonstrated community-based work may also be considered.

Experience:
The Community Impact Manager should have demonstrated experience in community engagement, volunteer management, partnership development, fundraising support, outreach, or a related area. Ideally, candidates will have at least 3–5 years of relevant professional experience, preferably within a nonprofit, community-based, philanthropic, or mission-driven organization.

Experience developing and sustaining relationships with volunteers, donors, corporate partners, small businesses, community organizations, and other stakeholders is strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to build authentic, mutually beneficial relationships with community members, volunteers, donors, businesses, corporate partners, and community organizations.

  • Experience developing, coordinating, and strengthening volunteer and community impact initiatives.

  • Ability to identify partnership opportunities that align community resources with AFG’s programmatic, fundraising, and organizational priorities.

  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with the ability to understand the needs of internal teams and translate those needs into meaningful opportunities for community involvement.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to represent AFG professionally, respectfully, and authentically in community settings.

  • Experience coordinating community events, volunteer activities, outreach initiatives, corporate engagement opportunities, or other community-based activities.

  • Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships that strengthen AFG’s visibility, community trust, and long-term organizational capacity.

  • Strong organizational and project-management skills, including the ability to manage multiple partnerships, events, activities, timelines, and priorities.

  • Ability to listen, communicate thoughtfully, and respond to the needs of internal teams and external partners using a collaborative and solutions-focused approach.

  • Commitment to trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and relationship-centered practices.

  • Ability to approach partnerships with respect, curiosity, consistency, and an understanding that meaningful community impact is built through trust.

  • Comfortable working independently while remaining highly collaborative within a dynamic, mission-driven organization.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn databases, volunteer management systems, donor platforms, and other technology used by the organization.

  • Availability to occasionally participate in community events and organizational activities outside of traditional business hours.

  • A valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally as needed to support community engagement activities and partnerships.

Alternatives For Girls (AFG) is a Detroit-based nonprofit organization dedicated to helping girls and young women experiencing homelessness and other risks avoid violence, teen pregnancy, and exploitation while providing the support and resources needed to explore and access opportunities.
