Overview:
MiGen is Michigan’s only nonprofit dedicated to services and advocacy for LGBTQ+ maturing and older adults, their loved ones and caregivers. Through direct services, training and education, social programming and community navigation, MiGen is changing what is possible each and every day for our communities. A flexible, progressive organization with a social justice mindset, MiGen provides our services remotely and in person through an integrated/embedded model with partners in the LGBTQ+ and senior serving ecosystem. In addition to being deeply dedicated to the communities we serve, we are also deeply committed to our staff and believe in flexible hybrid work models, investing in developing talent, competitive benefits and investing in our employees through professional development, mentorship and a variety of leadership and growth opportunities. “Because that’s the way we’ve always done it” is not a phrase you will hear as a part of this team. We believe in innovation, strategic risk taking, breaking things down and building them back better and trying new things that take us outside of our comfort zones.
MiGen also recognizes that our team members bring diverse life experiences to their work, including exposure to systemic stress or secondary trauma. We are committed to fostering psychological safety through transparent decision-making, clear role expectations, structured onboarding, and regular access to supportive supervision. At MiGen we respect your autonomy. Where operational needs allow, we offer predictable scheduling, flexible hours, and choice in how you organize your daily workflow. We encourage clear boundaries between work and personal time.
Position Description:
An integral part of this diverse team, the Development Director researches, designs and implements all corporate and individual giving strategies. In collaboration with executive leadership and leadership team peers, the Development Director will set and achieve annual goals related to MiGen’s contributed revenue portfolio. A new addition to the MiGen team, the Development Director will have the opportunity to be immediately impactful by designing a cadence and infrastructure they are excited about and feel will lead to better financial outcomes, expanded relationships and improved quality of life for LGBTQ+ aging adults and those who care for them. This role is supported across the MiGen team, by leadership and through contracted grants, events and financial support. There is no annual gala to plan and execute, unless you have a burning desire to create one. Rather, the Development Director will spend their time identifying opportunities, developing relationships and inviting organizations, corporations and individuals who care about aging LGBTQ+ folks to partner with and invest in MiGen. Those likely to be successful in this role will possess an entrepreneurial spirit and a dedication to ensuring their MiGen colleagues and those we serve have what they need in order to be successful.
At MiGen we value lived experience, non-traditional career paths, and formal education equally. We invite applications from candidates with transferable skills and diverse backgrounds, and we are committed to providing the training necessary for you to succeed in this role. Our feedback process is bidirectional, transparent, and grounded in psychological safety. You can expect regular, collaborative check-ins focused on growth, professional development, and resource needs—not just performance metrics.
