Development Specialist - Individual Gifts

Essential Duties:

This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned regularly.  Associates may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader.  Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.

 

·         Contribute to an internal atmosphere that encourages high performance, teamwork, and continual improvement.

·         Positively represent Sparrow within the community and beyond.

•         Manage a pipeline/portfolio of individual donors: growing that portfolio through personal visits, calls, and interactions that develop and strengthen relationships in conjunction with annual support.

•         Lead Board Giving and oversee efforts to achieve 100% annual Board Giving and governance goals.

•         Achieve targets consistent with the overall goals and priorities of the Sparrow Foundation to inspire philanthropy in support of programs, projects, and other needs across Sparrow’s sites of care.

•         Work closely with Special Gifts Officer to build a pipeline to major gifts/planned giving programs.

•         Support gift range chart execution of capital campaign projects; the mid-level gifts which are the bulk of public-phase gift volumes.

 

Required Responsibilities of the Associate:

·         Demonstrates knowledge and maintains and respects patient right to privacy by following the HIPAA Privacy and Security policies and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:

Education:

  • Associate's Degree in Marketing, Communications, Hospitality Management, Business, or other supportive field of study and minimum five (5) years of non-profit or relevant workplace experience; OR Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, Hospitality Management, Business or supportive field of study and minimum three (3) years of non-profit or relevant workplace experience.

 

License / Certification:

  • None

 

Experience:

  • See Education.
  • Proven success in a prior fundraising-related role

 

Skills & Abilities:

·         Computer-savvy with Microsoft Office tools, databases, or other technology tools.

·         Judgment and Decision Making: proven ability to think on one’s feet; evaluate relevant information, recognize alternatives, and reach logical conclusions based on the information available; handle day-to-day problems practically and effectively.

·         Verbal and Listening Skills: superior communication skills, specifically the talent to speak effectively and make oneself understood in both informal settings and before a group along with refined listening skills to acquire relevant information effectively.

·         Empathy and Relationship Skills: the sensitivity to perceive and react with consideration to the needs and feelings of others; competence in developing relationships that enhance understanding, communication, and friendliness.

·         Ability to Motivate: the skill to influence, persuade, motivate, and convince others of the worthiness of the cause and appropriateness of a gift.

·         Initiative: must be able and willing to work by high, self-imposed standards and discipline; be a self-starter; devote extra effort to get the job done whenever necessary.  Must be able to work in a fast-paced, demanding, and results-oriented environment.

·         Planning and Organizing: possess the discipline to structure personal activities to maximize productivity and efficiency; systematically arrange documentation and information; establish objectives and plans for the accomplishment of goals; set priorities; meet deadlines.

·         Flexibility: ability to adapt and respond appropriately to the demands of a variety of situations, including working early mornings, evenings, and weekends to attend events and meetings.

·         Analytical Skills: strong experience in analyzing and interpreting data to drive donor strategies with the ability to conceptualize, develop, implement, and assess strategic development activities.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Preferred:

  • Experience in Raiser's Edge or other donor/CRM database.
  • Experience in a direct solicitation development/fundraising role
  • Experience working in a healthcare environment.
  • Certificate in fundraising management (CFRM)
