Habitat Detroit is seeking someone who believes in the Habitat Detroit mission and has an exceptional drive for furthering our fundraising efforts as well as strategizing and delivering on new ones. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who can take a creative approach to problem-solving, is excited to explore new opportunities, and can bring their unique talents to build on a vibrant, growing philanthropy model.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Promote awareness of Habitat Detroit’s mission and work
  • Identify new fundraising opportunities that align with Habitat Detroit’s mission and impact
  • Cultivate a network of dedicated donors through research of individuals, corporations, and foundations that are interested in gift giving
  • Maintain a portfolio of current Habitat Detroit donors, ensuring donors are satisfied and kept in the loop
  • Under the direction of the Philanthropy Director, manage fundraising initiatives to help the organization meet financial goals
  • Form strong relationships with external stakeholders
  • Effectively convey the organization’s mission, vision, and programs to potential donors
  • Strategize and successfully execute fundraising campaigns
  • Manage a budget and track whether goals are being met
  • Provide administrative support for non-grant gifts utilizing the donor database, including processing acknowledgements of gifts

Required skills and qualifications

  • At least three years of experience in fundraising or sales
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Passion for fundraising and the Habitat Detroit mission
  • Ability to successfully balance priorities while managing multiple tasks and revenue streams
  • Supportive attitude and excellent customer service skills
  • A creative approach to problem-solving
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity – Can effectively cope with change, can shift gears comfortably, can decide and act without having the total picture, can comfortably handle risk and uncertainty.
  • Have a broad awareness of issues impacting our community and the families we serve.
  • Confidence in public speaking

Preferred skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in communications, business, public relations, or related field
  • Competence with donor management systems
  • Experience in writing proposals, and fundraising letters
  • Understanding of fundraising best practices
