The Paradise Valley Cultural and Entertainment District Conservancy (PVCEDC) is a nonprofit committed to revitalizing and preserving the cultural and entertainment heritage of Detroit’s Paradise Valley area. Our mission is to foster a vibrant community that honors the historic legacy of this cultural hub, promotes economic growth, and provides a dynamic, inclusive space for residents and visitors to enjoy.
Position Overview:
Our inaugural Executive Director will be the driving force behind the PVCEDC’s mission, responsible for overseeing daily operations, managing a volunteer board, securing placemaking grants, and leading all fundraising initiatives. This individual will serve as the primary advocate for our organization, building strong community relationships and fostering a culture of inclusivity, innovation, and growth. The ideal candidate is a visionary leader with experience in nonprofit management, volunteer board engagement, and demonstrated success in grant writing and fundraising.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Management
- Serve as the chief executive officer of the PVCEDC, providing strategic leadership to fulfill the organization’s mission and goals.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the organization, including staff, volunteers, and contractors.
- Collaborate with the board of directors to develop and implement strategic plans, operational budgets, and annual goals.
- Cultivate an environment that encourages board and volunteer engagement, growth, and productivity.
Board Management
- Serve as the primary liaison between the board of directors and the organization, facilitating regular communication, transparency, and strategic alignment.
- Work with board members to identify and recruit additional members, strengthen governance practices, and ensure that the board’s contributions align with the mission and goals of the PVCEDC.
- Guide the board in fundraising efforts, including donor cultivation, grant writing, and event planning.
Fundraising & Grant Writing
- Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan, including individual donations, corporate sponsorships, events, and grant proposals.
- Identify and apply for placemaking grants to support community engagement initiatives, public art projects, and cultural programming.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, foundations, government agencies, and community partners to secure funding and expand the PVCEDC’s impact.
Community Engagement & Program Development
- Act as a public representative for the PVCEDC, fostering relationships with local businesses, government agencies, community organizations, and cultural institutions.
- Develop and implement community programs and events that align with the PVCEDC’s mission, enhance public awareness, and promote cultural preservation.
- Oversee marketing and public relations efforts to elevate the PVCEDC’s visibility and influence within the community.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of nonprofit management experience, preferably in an executive or senior leadership role. Demonstrated success in fundraising, grant writing, and managing a volunteer board is essential.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in nonprofit management, business administration, public administration, or a related field preferred.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Proven track record in fundraising and donor relations, with a focus on major gifts, sponsorships, and grant writing. Despite seed funding for this position, it will require a high level of fundraising to create sustainability.
- Familiarity with placemaking concepts, community development, and cultural programming.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and influence others.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and media relations.
- Proficiency in budgeting, financial management, and strategic planning.
