Family Services Partner

About COTS

For 40 years, COTS (www.cotsdetroit.org) has been committed to serving the most vulnerable members of the Detroit community by providing emergency shelter, supportive housing, and wraparound services for more adults and children daily. COTS supports more than 1,000 heartbeats daily and is on a mission to create opportunities for families overcoming poverty to collaborate, thrive, and succeed in building strong and stable households, neighborhoods, and communities.

This is a full-time position which will work under general supervision. Qualified candidates must be available to work flexible hours including some weekends, covering shifts, and holidays, as needed.

Essential Functions of the Family Services Partner:

  • Reviews logbooks daily and sign off.
  • Completes rounds and writes reports outlining observations and activities during assigned shifts.
  • Assists with distribution of linen and supplies.
  • Distributes and logs medications.
  • Screens all incoming packages for prohibited contraband.
  • Distribute supplies needed to families upon request.
  • Ensure guests cleans living spaces and maintain proper levels of clothing.
  • Continually interacts with shelter guests to know and understand their concerns and needs.
  • Updates Case Planners and Supervisors of any extraordinary issues or concerns in writing.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • One or more years of experience in the human services sector
  • A great communicator (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Familiar with desktop computer, some skill using Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Willing to be trained in CPR and First Aid
  • Requires walking, sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment.
