JOB DUTIES:
Funding Strategy & Pipeline Development
- Develop and maintain MMSDC’s funding strategy and priority pipeline, focusing on high-value opportunities
- Identify and prioritize federal, state, corporate, and foundation funding aligned with organizational goals
- Build and track a targeted pipeline of high-impact funding opportunities rather than high volume submissions
- Package MMSDC programs into fundable, scalable initiatives aligned with funder priorities
Funder Relationship Development & Engagement
- Build, cultivate, and maintain strategic relationships with key funders, including foundations, corporate partners, and government agencies
- Serve as a primary point of contact for select high-priority funders
- Proactively engage funders prior to RFP release to position MMSDC for upcoming opportunities
- Lead funder meetings, briefings, and presentations to communicate MMSDC’s impact and priorities
- Develop and execute targeted funder cultivation plans, focusing on quality over quantity
- Partner with leadership to leverage existing relationships and expand MMSDC’s funding network
- Identify and pursue invitation-only and relationship-driven funding opportunities
- Position MMSDC as a trusted partner and leader within the funding ecosystem
Performance Tracking & Continuous Improvement
- Track key performance metrics (pipeline value, funding secured, funder engagement)
- Prioritize efforts based on highest return opportunities and strategic alignment
- Continuously refine strategy to maximize impact within part-time capacity

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Requirements:
- Local to the state of Michigan
- Regional Expertise: Must be based in or deeply familiar with the Michigan market to facilitate frequent in-person engagement with key stakeholders.
- Established Network: Proven track record of existing relationships within Michigan’s philanthropic circles, including private foundations, corporate giving offices, and community stakeholders.
- Educational Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Business, Communications, or related field
- Previous Work Experience:
- 6–8+ years of experience in fundraising, grants development, or resource development
- Demonstrated success securing large-scale or multi-year funding
- Experience building and managing funder relationships and funding pipelines
- Technical Skills Required:
- Strong grant strategy and proposal development expertise
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with funders and stakeholders
- Strategic planning and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools (e.g., Monday.com, Salesforce)
