Community Liaison and Development Director

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Development and Fundraising

  • Understand and execute fundraising principles and techniques and keep up on industry trends
  • Is responsible for the successful establishment, implementation and oversight of short-, medium- and long-range giving plans for core mission and mission delivery support, including goals and timelines
  • Work to build strong, engaged relationships with a portfolio of current and potential supporters to determine and merge passions/interests/goals with TrueNorth funding priorities
  • Build flexible funding streams including financial gifts from individuals, community organizations, small businesses and corporations
  • Collaborate with President and CEO, leadership team and program staff to set and reach annual revenue goals
  • Create, implement, and evaluate strategies that lead to sound donor cultivation, prospecting, segmenting, acknowledgement, recognition and stewardship
  • Identify and maintain an active portfolio of current and potential supporters with the capacity to make a major gift ($5,000+) annually. Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward this portfolio of major donors
  • Actively monitor and adjust major gift efforts against budgeted goals to achieve or exceed revenue targets
  • Actively build agency reserve fund(s) and, when appropriate, endowment fund(s)
  • Work collaboratively to develop and manage an annual calendar of fundraising events aligned with organizational fundraising goals
  • Identify opportunities to enhance revenue, donor engagement and brand visibility through events
  • Coordinate and manage planned giving marketing campaigns
  • Identify, qualify and solicit potential planned gift supporters
  • Build strong, mutually beneficial relationships between TrueNorth and a variety of constituents including supporters, volunteers, TrueNorth staff, community organizations and other external audiences to enhance public awareness of TrueNorth programs and services
  • Build, strengthen and maintain high level relationships with staff and trustees of foundations including community foundations, corporate foundations and family foundations
  • Is responsible for the provision of data and user support for all fundraising activities on donor database by ensuring that the data held on the database is usable, consistent, accurate and secure
  • Maintain constituent records within donor database including contact information, actions, notes, relationships and gifts
  • Ensure data integrity by overseeing the collection, entry and reporting of gifts
  • Develop strategies to effectively collect pertinent constituent data, including financial and in-kind gifts as well as volunteer records
  • Collaborate with a variety of staff to effectively and efficiently collect constituent data
  • Be visible, known and respected within communities while developing and enhancing collaborations and partnerships to further the goals of the Development Department
  • Attend meetings of the leadership team and actively engage in thoughtful discussion and decision making, including meetings of the TrueNorth Board of Directors

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position directly supervises all Development Department staff including Donor Database Specialist and Events and Volunteer specialist. This position will carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with TrueNorth’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Comfortable with and enjoys building strong relationships with a diverse set of constituents and fundraising responsibilities
  • Highly resourceful team player with the ability to also be extremely effective independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven fund raising and development skills
  • Must be well organized, detail-oriented and able to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a timely manner
  • Demonstrate proactive approaches to problem solving with strong decision making capabilities
  • High proficiency with computers and programs such as Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace; Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge experience preferred
  • Commitment to embracing a diverse range of people
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • History of successful fundraising, development and stewardship

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree is required
  • Five years’ experience in fundraising, including major gifts and planned giving preferred
  • Blackbaud fundraising product experience preferred
