Director of Programming and Communication

Organization Description/Mission:

The Hamtramck Parks Conservancy (HPC) is a collaboration of the City of Hamtramck, Hamtramck Public Schools, Hamtramck Recreation Department, and community partners seeking to improve green spaces and recreation activities for city and area residents. The HPC supports the Hamtramck Recreation District, which includes Veterans Park, Keyworth Stadium, Historic Hamtramck Stadium, Playfair Field, and the many amenities and activities within them.

 

Position Overview

 The HPC is a dynamic and expanding organization with an ambitious vision. We are actively seeking an individual to assume a leadership role in creating innovative programs and ensuring their success through effective communication. This pivotal position marks the organization's second staff hire and is fortified by a robust network of funders and partners. Ideal candidates for this role will bring an entrepreneurial spirit and a proactive mindset, serving as a community leader while developing engaging programs that significantly benefit the broader community.

Role and Responsibilities

Program Design and Management

  • Design and oversee a series of parks and recreation programs tailored to enhance the well-being of Hamtramck residents and parks visitors.
  • Assess resource requirements and ensure the timely procurement of necessary supplies and materials.
  • Coordinate volunteer activities, fostering partnerships with youth, corporate entities, and other community groups.
  • Develop diverse opportunities encompassing sports, exercise, nature exploration, education, social activities, and other park-related initiatives aligning with HPC's mission.

 

Community Outreach

  • Cultivate awareness of the organization, its mission, and activities within local populations and potential visitors.
  • Establish robust and trusting relationships with community leaders, partners, and park stakeholders/users.

 

External Communications

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to formulate the organizational communications strategy.
  • Contribute to the creation of the annual report, grant reports, and other required periodic external communications.
  • Draft public relations content for recreation programs and other organizational activities.
  • Maintain the organization's website and manage social media channels.

 

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Work and/or volunteer experience with recommendation (min. 3 years) in the fields of nonprofit management, youth development or education, parks and recreation management, Web design, public relations, social media management, corporate communications, or a related field.
  • Personal or professional experience working or interacting in Hamtramck and/or the ethnic communities that populate it, preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred.
  • Verbal/written proficiency in one or more languages commonly spoken in Hamtramck, such as Arabic, Bangla, Bosnian, Polish, Ukrainian, preferred.
