Civic & Community Engagement (CCE) Summit

Hosted by Michigan Nonprofit Association (MNA) & Council of Michigan Foundations (CMF)

Civic and Community Engagement Summit, Tuesday, November 17, 2026, Marygrove Conservance, Detroit

Our communities are strongest when people can authentically engage, feel connected, and empowered to work together. As Margaret Mead famously observed, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.” Civic engagement is the embodiment of that idea—people coming together to improve their communities and shape a more inclusive future.

On November 17, 2026, the Michigan Nonprofit Association (MNA) and the Council of Michigan Foundations (CMF) will host the 3rd Annual Community and Civic Engagement Summit at Marygrove Conservancy in Detroit, bringing together nonprofit, foundation, and grassroots leaders from across Michigan for learning, collaboration, and inspiration.

This year's summit will focus on the importance of civic knowledge and understanding—the foundation of meaningful civic engagement. Understanding how government, laws, and public systems work empowers nonprofits, foundations, and community members to participate in decision-making, advocate for community needs, and advance mission-driven outcomes. By strengthening civic knowledge, organizations can reduce barriers to participation, advance equity, support a healthy democracy, and build stronger, more resilient communities.

Join fellow community builders to exchange ideas, share resources, foster new partnerships, and explore strategies for creating lasting change across Michigan.

Registration will open in the coming weeks, be sure to check back!

2026 Civic and Community Engagement Summit Proposal Information Guide

In 2024, MNA and CMF co-hosted the first Civic and Community Engagement Summit in Detroit. Coming on the heels of the election, it was a timely space to debrief, reflect, and envision a brighter path forward—together. Voting is powerful, but we know lasting change requires ongoing, active engagement in our communities. The CCE Summit tapped into the power of connection, sparked action, and set off a ripple effect of positive impact—all while bringing people together in person.
