This is an important first step in understanding how nonprofits reflect and represent the communities they serve. Based on the results, the findings are clear: Michigan’s nonprofits have a stark racial leadership gap. Survey data was analyzed and interpreted by the Michigan Nonprofit Association, D3, and the Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy in the fall of 2022, and culminated in a report that details equity issues facing different communities across the state.
This report focused on six regions in Michigan: Lakeshore/West Michigan, Metro Detroit, Mid-State/Central Michigan, Southern Central Michigan, Tip of the Mitt, and the Upper Peninsula.
