As we leave 2025 behind, I want to start with two simple words: thank you.

Thank you for showing up. Thank you for giving back. Thank you for standing alongside your communities, even when the work felt heavy.

This year was especially meaningful for us at MNA as we celebrated our 35th anniversary. We’ve loved reflecting on the journey, the stories, and the people who have shaped this organization—and the sector—over the past three and a half decades. Cheers to the next 35! If you missed any of the celebration, I hope you’ll visit our 35th anniversary page and take a moment to look back with us.

Let’s be honest—2025 was not an easy year. It pushed nonprofit leaders in ways both familiar and new. A government shutdown, constant uncertainty, rising demand, stretched resources, and burnout all showed up at once. And while more challenges are likely ahead, one thing remains true: nonprofits are resilient. You’ve weathered storms before, and you continue to adapt, collaborate, and persevere. Across Michigan, you held the line. You protected the safety net. You supported families, children, seniors, and neighbors when they needed it most. That matters more than words can capture.

I also know this: you’re tired. The burnout is real. The weight of this year has taken a toll, and the exhaustion many nonprofit leaders feel is deep and validated. If you can, I hope you take time over the holidays to truly rest and do something that brings you joy. (If you find a little downtime, I’d love for you to take a moment to read my op-ed in the Detroit News.)

As we look ahead to 2026, my encouragement is this: Keep collaborating. Deepen your engagement with your board, donors, and volunteers. Lean into the people who fuel your mission.

You did important work in 2025, and we’ll need that same energy, creativity, and collective strength as we move forward. Nonprofits are going to be here—no matter what. And so is MNA. In 2026, we will continue to fight for the resources, policies, and support you need to show up for your communities—because that’s who we are.

With 2026 being an election year in our state, this is a moment to help people stay engaged and involved. When we volunteer, stay active, and stay connected to one another, we strengthen our communities.

As we look ahead, know that you are not alone. From all of us at MNA, thank you for your courage, your compassion, and your commitment. We see you, we appreciate you, and we’re grateful to walk alongside you in 2026.

Warmly,

Kelley Kuhn
