Graduate Success Coordinator (part-time)

Racquet Up Detroit is an out-of-school youth development program which uses the sport of squash, in combination with academic tutoring, fitness education, community service, and mentoring to make a lasting positive impact on the lives of Detroit public school students. Founded in 2010 through a collaboration with the Squash and Education Alliance (SEA), Racquet Up works with 165 5th through 12th grade students and 52 post-secondary graduates. 

The organization is currently seeking an experienced youth development specialist to fill the part-time role of Graduate Success Coordinator beginning as soon as possible. The ideal candidate will be a high-energy, creative, hard-working, self-starter with strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Previous experience in student coaching, essay writing support, college advising, and/or afterschool programs, preferred.

Responsibilities and Expectations:

Programming

  • Design and implement college access enrichment programming for high school juniors and seniors
  • Provide monthly 1-on-1 check-ins for Racquet Up graduates currently enrolled in college
  • Organize annual Racquet Up College Expo bringing together 10+ colleges and college resource representatives with an audience of 100+ program participants and community members
  • Plan and chaperone college visits for all students, including annual multi-day college tour for high school juniors, and visiting Racquet Up college students on their campuses
  • Support planning and execution of week-long career exploration camp for high school students

Community Building

  • Build supportive relationships with high school students and families through regular communication about program participation, attendance, and completion of college access tasks
  • Write and design a monthly newsletter to share useful information and engage with the general Racquet Up graduate population 
  • Support planning and execution of in-person community events for Racquet Up graduates, including social outings and educational sessions
  • Plan and facilitate monthly virtual community gatherings for Racquet Up graduates

Operations

  • Collect and input data and records relevant to college access enrichment programming and college check-in programs into Salesforce and Google Drive
  • Take an active role in pre- and post-program logistics, including walking/driving students from school to the program facility, and ensuring a safe and orderly dismissal process
  • Participate in Education Team meetings; collaborate with Academic Coordinators
  • Assist with additional tasks as needed, including support of weekend activities, squash tournaments, and other events/field trips

Accountability/Supervisor/Reporting Structure: 

The Graduate Success Coordinator reports to the Director of Graduate Success and will also complete tasks with other staff members as assigned. 

Typical Schedule/Work Hours: 

24 hours a week. 11am-7pm, Tuesday through Thursday during the school year. The schedule will adjust over the summer to accommodate regular 8:30am-4:30pm summer camp programs. Occasional weekend and evening tasks as assigned. Occasional overnight travel as assigned. 

Compensation and benefits: 

  • $27,000-$30,000 annual salary
  • Generous paid time off including 15 fixed vacation days, 2 floating vacation days, federal and state holidays as recognized by the Detroit Public School Community District, 3 sick days, and 2 personal days each year
