Civic and community engagement play a vital role in advancing equity by amplifying diverse voices and expanding access to participation.
Nonprofits are uniquely positioned to lead civic and community engagement (CCE) work by connecting the communities they serve to the democratic process. According to Independent Sector, 81% of community members trust nonprofits to engage in policy work and advocacy.
Michigan Nonprofit Association is committed to supporting nonprofits in their CCE efforts by providing resources and opportunities. These include advocacy engagement with legislators, voter participation initiatives, and efforts to promote involvement in the decennial census.
Regardless of size or mission, every nonprofit has the opportunity to engage in CCE work on a daily basis and at multiple levels.
